Game's central Town reference ideas

Here are some images that we can use as a reference for our level designs.

Since the Kingdom Hearts series is one of my major influences for "No Strings Attached", here is KH2's Twilight Town. It has kind of a European vibe to it, very calm colors.

It probably won't be as large as Twilight Town, but I really love the feel of it and the colors. Thoughts? Opinions?
This last image is not from Kingdom Hearts but from some other game I saw advertised today. A little forest like this would be a really cool transition, leading into our dark forest. Leaves would get darker as Pin would venture closer to the 1st game world.

  1. I think it's a great idea! Even though our game is set in a fantasy world, we could base our locales on different elements of San Francisco. For instance we could have a level where Pin is jumping across the rooftops of Victorian houses, or the forest level could contain references to Golden Gate Park, etc. Of course these elements would be stylized, but it roots our environments in something real to draw inspiration from, like Artur's examples show above.

There is also this cool little garden of shoes with flowers and plants growing out of them in Alamo Square Park and it would be neat use those in the forest level.
